Alkemy goes Metal !

The future is on its way and will be written in metal capitals !
It is now official, the Alkemy ranges moves from plastic to metal. The main reason for this decision was the time to market for our products.

What does this mean ?
We hope to be able to move from a plastic production that took many months to a production that will require but a few weeks. We consider smaller releases (2 to 3 miniatures) every 6 to 8 weeks.
The offer modification will be the packaging: we move on from boxes to blisters, except for some products, like the collector boxes.
The first metal/blister release is scheduled for beginning of july, with the Belluarus, Khergars and Aurlok Hive Throwers.

What about the plastic range ?
This one continues to exist. The move to metal is only for the new references.

After some issues, the boxes are finally available in your shops.

Mornea Collection
The month of June will see a newcomer in the Mornea Collection Range: Ca'apiti, the hallucinated toad Aurlok in a magnificent 54 mm sculpt by Remy Tremnblay !

Spring Cleanup in the Kraken shop!
The Kraken decided to clean up its lair and many things change:
First of all, the degra and wyrd ranges are removed from the shelves and will hence not be available anymore.

- Kings of War -
Large price reduction on the whole range ! Thanks to Mantic Games who continue to offer high quality miniatures at an incredible price: For example 52 miniatures and a war machine for 38 � !
Also the range is increasing, with new heroes, war machines and the whole undead range.

- Enigma Miniatures -
The incredible miniatures from Raul Latorre are now available !
Also, monitor closely the new releases for textured bases and the historical range !

- The Army Painter -
This crucial range of modeling tools, quick shade and primers is now available !
Brushes will soon be added to this already extensive range.

We talked about it, here are the next releases for Alkemy: The collector boxes, that contain for each faction 5 resin miniatures, amongst them a preview of the wave 6.
Here are the visuals of these boxes that will be released at the end of the month and that will be sold for 40�.

Results of the � Autumn Painting Challenge � Contest
Here are the results of the painting contest that happened during the end of 2009.
The winner of this first edition is Alexis � Metalman � Caltot with his wonderfull Cobra guard shadow !
Next month a new Alkemy painting contest will be organized.

In the early days of this year 2010, it is time for the Kraken to give you some information about the program of the upcoming 6 months.
We have planned a lot of things.

February:
In order to allow you to expand your gaming experience, all the Genesis profiles will be available in Architekt.
We will also add new goodies to the Galleon shop, including resin casts of some Alkemy Miniatures! These models will change and only be available for a given time, so pay close attention to these offers!

March:
It is our birthday month! Alkemy will be celebrating its second anniversary and for this occasion we have a few things planned.
First of all we will propose some anniversary limited edition packs. These faction themed packs will contain 5 resin miniatures, and also a resin cast miniature of the upcoming wave 6!
These packs will only be available from march to april!

For our North American friends, the operation "Road to Gencon 2010" will be launched at the same date. More information to come.

May:
The month of May will see the first size 3 miniature for Alkemy ! The Avalonians will be able to display on their gaming tables the Avalonian Colossus!
This miniature will be resin cast and will undoubtedly become a key figure for both players and painters.

June:
At the end of June, the Khalimans will be able to recruit the Mahritin Djinn !

July :
The wave 6 will be available during the month of July. Kraken will not be pursuing the idea of double boxes (boxes that contain miniatures of 2 different factions). In addition, the boxes will contain all the gaming material in German also!

This wave will contain the following miniatures:

Khalimans : The belluarus and 3 Khergars
Aurloks: Ca'apiti et 2 Hive throwers
Jade Triad: the second alchemist of the long breath and 2 iron heart sentinels
Avalon : Caelina et 3 Bushwhackers

The next wave is planned for the Gencon 2010 ...

We will also keep you posted about the setup of the new Alkemy site and the upcoming release of e-Genesis.

There is even more!
A couple of weeks ago, the Community Website called �www.tabletoptournaments.net� opened a whole new section dedicated to organized play in the USA. If you are an American player, you are now able to announce and set your tournaments for any game you are playing.
For 5 years now T3 (Table Top Tournament) has been allowing gamers to announce their tournaments, upload results and also keep track of them in a national and international ranking per game.
But T3 is also the Official Tool used by Kraken Editions for the international ranking for Alkemy. It means that as soon as your tournament is announced on it and the results are uploaded, it will automatically be added to the ranking.

You can have a look at the current international ranking here.

Once your tournament is official, it means that your players will earn Doubloons by participating in it and depending on their final result. They will now be able to get goodies from the Galleon Store.

To celebrate to new US T3, Kraken will double the Doubloons earned during Official Alkemy Tournaments until February 28th!! Therefore each player will get at least 20 Doubloons instead of 10 just by participating in an official tournament!

Many news today on the Kraken Shop !
First of all, Kraken became a distributor of the Kings of War miniature range. Very nice plastic miniatures that are very the High Elf warhost is composed of 52 miniatures and one warmachine, for a cost of 45 �!
Some Wyrd new miniatures are also available.

Autumn Painting Challenge

Come and experience the new Kraken plastic in your favorite shop !

Starting on the 31st of October, Kraken organizes with your favorites shops the � Autumn Painting Challenge � that will allow you to experience the new plastic of the latest alkemy releases.

You can go to your favorite shop to take part to this event. This includes shops in germany and the US in addition to France.
Your shop will provide you with miniatures of the wave 5 to participate in the contest.
You will have up to the 15th of december to deposit your mini at your shop. You are free to present the miniature as you like: conversion, specific base. The only rule is that it must be a single miniature.

Each shop will then define a winner, who will win 20 doubloons. A picture of each of the winning miniatures will then be sent to Kraken. We will then chose the most excellent miniature, and hence the winner of the � Autumn Painting Challenge �. He will get a unique trophy as well as 50 Additional doubloons !

Go visit your shops to take part in the contest !

Spiel Messe in Essen

Mornea chronicles Finals and new scenario

Lotharius - Wave 5

The change in packaging policy (packing more miniatures in each box) has allowed us to add characters to the wave 5.
For the Kingdom of Avalon faction, the character will be the Constable Lotharius of the Temple of Vespers.
His "Templar Constable" special ability will grant the Expert (Brutal) skill to all the templar novices fielded with him ... (webmaster's note: really looking forward to this guy)

The Kraken Communicates

The information is now official and many forums have already been talking about Asmodee having stopped the edition of Helldorado. After having received many mails, Josselin and the team wish to communicate you the following message:
"As I receive many messages of following the announcement of the end of Helldorado, I want to make a quick image of the current situation. I hope to be as clear as possible and I think you will find a set of answers that should satisfy your many interrogations. First of all, I want to clarify an essential fact: Kraken Editions is not Asmodee. It may seem silly to say but it is necessary to underline that. It is important for the various points that I develop below.

- Alkemy will not stop anytime soon!
Asmodee has chosen to refocus its business on its core activity: board games. The core business of Kraken Editions is miniatures.
Even if our desires outreach the pure tabletop game, our core activity is making miniatures. As a matter of fact, If one day we should announce the end of Alkemy, it would mean at the same time the end of Kraken Editions. And this will not happen anytime soon ;)

- Regarding the release plan:
The team is well aware that our current release policy is a barrier to some of you. The reason for this policy is simple: Alkemy now is just one year old, and Kraken is not much older. Alkemy is our first game and monopolizes all our financial resources. But they are not scalable. We do not have the economical assets of a Hasbro or a Games Workshop.
As a consequence we must wait for the previous waves to generate enough profit to be able to finance the next wave. We also made the choice (which proved to be sound) to develop internationally, and this requires further investments..
This leads to a situation where we need to space out our investments in order to sustain our business. In short, this is not a sign that the game or the company goes wrong, it is a sign that we do things at the pace we need to do to ensure that our business remains healthy (we could go faster by opening multiple bank credits, but it would be the road to oblivion).

- As for our mistakes:
What can we say? Nobody is perfect and certainly not we: sometimes, in our eagerness to offer you more and more, we tend to finish some projects too quick. Those are things we are aware of, and we strive for continuous improvement. This is why your feedback is so important to us: It allows us to perfect things that we did not necessarily consider perfectible. So please keep on coming back to us when you have any remark.

I wanted to be as clear as possible with you, to Share a little bit of what our activity within Kraken is made of. I hope it will answer your questions. If not, you know where to contact us ;)"

In addition, the entire Kraken team wishes the former Hellodrado Nantes team, which has also participated in developing the Alkemy and Artefactory miniature ranges, to succesfully sail towards new creative horizons.

Alkemy at the RPC

As already announced last year in our calendar, the Kraken team (Khal�rie, Josselin, Viktor, J�rn, and Allan) will be present at the Role Playing Convention in K�ln, Germany.
This event gathered last year more than 23000 visitors, passionated by fantasy universes. This is for us another opportunity to show our dedication to focus on the international communities.
During the RPC, Kraken and Galleon Germany co-organize a tournament.
First of all thank we want to thank the persons in charge of the RPC, who offer 10 entries at the RPC for the next 10 persons who register for the tournament.
Also, the two first ranked players of this tournament will get a seat and lodging for the final of the Mornea Chronicles 2008 that will take place during Stratepolis in Grenoble.
Hope to see you in K�ln !

Player locator

A new function was implemented on the Kraken website: A player locator. It is based on country and geographical subdivisions.
In order to stay true to our open and communitarian approach, we did not create our own list of players: Instead we rely on T³ (tabletoptournaments), the cross-system communitarian tabletop site.
In order to keep this list up to date, we invite to you to register on T³. If you are already registered, then do not forget to update the list of systems you play.

Architekt: Profiles of the wave 6

Since their translations in German and English are finished, the profiles of the future wave 6 are now available in Architekt.
You will find there:
For Avalon: The Avalonian pilgrim, unmatchable bodyguards, the vicious and Schyzophreniac Mordren de Klarmen, the old and respectable Prioress Caelina.
For the Aurloks: Ca'apiti red eyes and his toxic pets, as well as the Walosi Hive-Throwers, Walosi blessed Aurloks that are not afraid to get stung ...
For the Jade Triad: The sentinells of the Iron Heart, and the first profile for a size 3 miniature: the Blade of the Tiger Guard.
To finish with a touch of sublety, the Khalimans will get a Malikh venator (that has become known under the name Garfield) and his three Desert Khergars.

Wave 5

The profiles of the following miniatures are now available in Architekt: Avalonian Retiarii, Shadows of the Cobra Guard, Fu Nihao and Lotharius.
We would like to take the opportunity of this news to give you two important information:
- The first is that we have decided to review our packaging policy, in order to make the price increase a tad more acceptable: from now on all our boxes will contain at least three miniatures. The immediate effect on this on the wave is that Fu Nihao will be released with the shadows and Lotharius with the Retiarii.
- Second, this sadly has an impact on the release date of this wave: It will be available for May of this year: We have to remake the packaging items and initiate the production of the additional miniatures. The good news is that, in the meantime, the English version of Genesis will be released, and the chances are very high that a German version of Genesis will also be released in March.
In addition to this news, here are pictures of some of the wave 5 miniatures.

This time you can admire the invocation of a powerfull Marithin djinn by a khaliman summoner.
The Oracles that have the most vivid imagination are able to perform deeds that are far more more impressive than simply catching glimpses of the future. Drawing their inspiration from the myriads of potential futures, those that are respectfully called invocators are able to summon objects, or even sometimes a fearsome Djinn.

Since Genesis' release date is coming closer and closer, wecontinue to add the wallpapers, each one of them made from Illustrationsfrom Genesis. This weeks the Aurloks are due, with a gathering of Night-shamans summoning an ancestor spirit.
Spirits are the material part of an ancestor that has not yet started his new incarnation cycle: Still sentient in the night sky, they keep on watching over their kin. The Night-Shamans are able to summon them in the land of the living.

Kraken is proud to announce the following new Artefactoryreleases: in the Degra range, the vendale Cansykh and Don Adonza Fernandez. In the Humor Range, the charming Toad byJulie Guthrie. And we also open a new range of products, the accessories, starting with the resin display bases.
Just to keep you posted about the future, our workshop is currentlyat work on many new pieces: an Orc bust by Allan Carrasco, the Yarriguette and the Gnome Lady, inspired by the work of Raul Latoree, and also acentaur by Pedro Fernandez Ramos.
A second bust and a 54mm miniature inspired by Alkemy are currently in workprogress in the loving hands of Maxime Penaud and Remy Tremblay. Hint: "CROOAA".

Genesis

As you might have heard, Genesis is in its final stages of realization. The contents of these 128 full color pages book will include the following: the amended rules, all the profiles of the first four factions of Mornea.
But more importantly, more than half of the Book is dedicated to describing the settings of the Mornea universe, describing your favorite factions, from their cultural habits to their origins. We hope this will be enough to quench your thirst for background (at first ;)).
One of the changes in the rules is the number of heroes allowed for a given Format:
Warbands that are worth 200 points or less must have exactly one hero.
Warbands between 201 and 300 must have at least 1, maximum 2.
Warbands between 301 and 400 must have at least 2, maximum 3.
These changes have already been taken into account in Architekt.

Wave 5 Concept Art

The wave 5 will consist of the additional starter miniatures for the Khalimans and Aurloks: 2 Jaraya warriors and a Ghulam for the Khalimans, and 2 wolf Thunder-Warriors, 2 crow Thunder-Warriors and one Auroch Totem-Warrior for the Aurloks.
You will be able to very easily find one of the concepts of these new Jarayas on the website (in any Khaliman dedicated page!).
For the Jade Triad, these new reinforcements are the Cobra Guard Shadows, the deadly assassins of the Celestial One of the Pale Moon and their surprising combat techniques.
On the Avalonian side, the Retiarii will bring Fear in the hearts of your enemies, in addition to their ability to ease the life of the Avalonian troops.

The Upcoming Releases

Here is a brief statement to keep you informed about the Kraken Policy regarding the upcoming releases. As usual, we do not hide anything!
- The waves 4 and 5 are currently in production and will be available at your favorite miniature dealers this autumn. The reason we had to postpone the release date of these waves was in order to provide our English speaking friends (that means you ;)) with the starters in English version. We made the assumption it was pretty important to make these English starters available, since the international Alkemy community is growing pretty fast. And also because we secretly dream to organize huge international events were all the local communities can meet and share!
- You will find updates of the starter cards in the reinforcement packs. These cards will replace some cards from the starters in order to correct some mistakes that slipped past our attention.
- Since we are talking about our releases policy, here is another statement: You will have noticed that the miniatures of the 3^rd wave were (a little) more expensive than those of the previous waves. We have made a mistake by producing boxes with only one miniature. The result was that the production costs exceeded by far what we thought it would be, and that we had no choice but to raise the final selling price. Please be aware that luckily, we learn from our mistakes and that from now on we have decided to package at least two human sized miniatures in each box. The loss in terms of modularity of your purchases will be a direct gain on the price. These boxes will cost between 16 and 18�, instead of 13 for one miniature. We assumed this was by far the best solution.

Please be also aware that we continue to keep close attention to all your remarks and posts and that we are very pleased by all your encouragements and enthusiasm and that we will continue to do our best to develop Alkemy up to your expectations. Thanks to all of you, and we hope to meet you soon at any of the events were we will be present!

Starter Corrections

In the scope of our continuous effort to offer an even more balanced game, the Kraken Team decided to update some profiles of the starter miniatures.
You will see that some slight changes were brought to the following profiles:
Garlan, the Toad medecine Shaman, the Auroch Totem Warrior and the formulas of the Khaliman Oracle.
All these modifications are of course available in Architekt as well as in the downloads section.
These changes are currently only available on the website, but the modified cards will be available in the "additional starter miniatures" boxes for each faction (Wave 4 for Avalon and Jade and wave 5 for the Aurloks and Khalimans).
The english versions of the starters that will be available at the Gencon Indy will of course contain these modifed cards.

International fairs

Keeping true to its international orientation, The Kraken Team will be present at the two main events of tabletop gamin: The US Gencon 2008 , that will take place in Indianapolis from the 14^th until the 17^th of August, and the Spiel Messe in Essen from the 23rd to the 26th of October.
Regarding the Gencon: The Kraken Team will start the animations on friday evening, in the main building at the ICC201 location. For the rest of the fair, Kraken will be at the 1505 booth.
The US Gencon will also be the opportunity for US to officially release the English version of the starters.
Do not hesitate to come by and visit us !

- In the right corner, a historical mini, in this case John King, a 11 year old pirate. We strongly advise you to read his history, which is quite interesting. Concept by Ramet, sculpting by Benoit Cauchies, painting byJ�r�mie Bonamant Teboul.
In theory, these two miniatures should be available in the Artefactory shop. But John King had such a success that we are currently out of stock until september.

Small Bugs on the DVD

When sending out the first instalment of DVD's in English, Italian and Spanish, and on NTSC home DVD player (Northern America, a part of southern America and Asia: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC), we saw the DVD's included some bugs.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we will reserve this first batch of copies only for French speaking countries (outside NTSC zone).
We will contact the customers already in possession of one of these DVD once a compatible version is ready in their language. It should be done in September.
The French and English DVD, compatible with NTSC players, are expected for the weekend of Gencon Indy from the 14th to 17th of August 08. Even if this first version is not NTSC ready, there is no problem to read it on an usual computer as long as you have a regional decoder.
Some bugs appeared on the first version of this DVD but they don't harm the use of the discs. They're now reserved for the French and non-NTSC English market.
The list of these bugs and their solutions are now available on the DVD page of the Artefactory shop.

Wave 4 reinforcements greens

Wave 2 and concepts of Wave 3

This gives us the opportunity to reveal the concepts of the Wave 3:
- The deacon Leodegarius is a clergyman who subtly combines herbalism and alchemy. He is able to weaken or even kill using his "apothecary" skills.
- Tamel'seh is a spirit Shaman of Koga: He has a very strong with his Manitu, who protects him wherever he goes by a swarm of crows.
- I�cha Bint Sornha, the guardian of the snow, lives as an outcast: exiled in the northern parts of the republic, she chose to protect the weakest of her kin.
- Xian Ling, of the school of the hazed monkey, is a street acrobat alchemist that likes to play his enemies using his "aerial" alchemy.
All these concepts where made by Xavier Gueniffrey-Durin except Leodegarius by Bertrand Benoit.

Starter availability delay

In order to be as transparent as possible, the Kraken team informs you that in spite of all our efforts, there is a new delay in the availability date of Alkemy.
The starters will hence not be available for the 20th of february as planned. Please be aware that we are doing everything we possibly can to shorten this delay.

Alkemy tournaments on T�

The Kraken Team being made of individuals who are quite implicated in differnet communities, we could not imagine to make our own solution out of pure pride.

Templar novices

Being a novice in the temple means devoting soul and body to the Church of the Beathacrann. Being a novice in the temple also means to become the host of a symbiote of the Beathacrann, and hence to be a physical extension of the Tree of Life.
The novices of the Temple have not yet reached the rank that will allow them to carry and use the sanctified weapon of the temple, the sword. As a consequence, they fight with very long lances that give a long reach that is pretty uncommon for avalonian troops.
These miniatures are viewable in the galery section of the Kingdom of Avalon.

Alkemy available next week !

After many issues (mainly customs and transport related), we are able to announce that Alkemy will be available in French shops (both physical and online) on the 20th of February !
For countries outside of France, we are still in the process of initiating our relationship with wholesalers, and the current contacts are very encouraging !

Alkemy Architekt

Architekt is a tool that will allow you to create your warbands very easily, from which you will be able to print an html roster or to save a pdf format of your roster.
These rosters will allow you to track the alchemical stones, components and life points of your miniatures, and also summarizes the alchemical formulas and special abilities of your miniatures.
The german version of Architekt is also available.

Knight Errant

As you might have noticed in the Calendar, Kraken will be present at the Painting Crusade V in Brussels. We have made a special edition miniature for this event, an Avalonian Knight Errant, that is now in the Avalonian galery.
We also added all the pdf files of all special edition profile Cards in French, German and English.
All these files are downloadable from ... well, the downloads section of Alkemy.

Artefactory Greens

Today we present you the greens of the first miniatures of the ArteFactory range.
With his right flipper in his jacket, the arctic emperor has an attitude of great and comical posterity.
Manipulating the anatomy to make a believable oversized arm, and finding an adequate body to support this extra weight was a real challenge for Romain Van Den Bogaert.
Regarding Furgol, Allan Carrasco worked mainly on the swaying attitude and on the pity this sad creature would trigger in its viewers.

Downloads - Profile cards

The rules of been available for download for quite some time now. Today we have added high resolution pdf files of all the profile cards from the starter boxes.
These documents have a high enough resolution to allow you printing the cards and using them in games.
The german version of the cards (along with rules and combat cards) will soon follow.

Demonstrations in France

Kraken organizes many demonstrations and events everywhere in France (and sometimes abroad !).
The proof: At the Jeux Mage�inn store of Pau an avalonian character has been performing demonstrations for a full month, in Lyon the members of the RTS were presented Alkemy by the very members of the Kraken team, and in Montreal our Quebec cousins have admired the paintjob of the Team Montreal and participated to Alkemy deminstrations.

These are but some of the events happening in France and abroad. Fell free to check out our Calendar !
The next international event will take place in Brussel beginning of February, with some gust stars such as Ben Komets during the fifth painting Crusade.

Artwork of the Wave 2

In order to help you to be able to build as fast as possible a 300 points warband, we will release the second wave of Alkemy miniatures as 3 miniatures of new troops for each faction.
Of course the three miniatures for each faction will be different sculpts.
The reinforcements will be the following: Novices of the Temple for the Kingdom of Avalon, Toad Thunder-Warriors for the Aurloks, Triadic Guards for the Empire of the Jade Triad and Malikh Tuaregs for the Khaliman republic.
In order to provide you a nice teaser, here are some of the concepts that were used for these upcoming miniatures.

We are sorry to announce that due to some transportation issues we will receive the starter with some delay (2 to 3 weeks).
We are aware of the disappointment this delay cause, since we are ourselves eager to see the start of the fight for the Alchemical stones.
We thank you for your continued trust, and will do everything we can to shorten this delay. We will of course keep you posted.

Artefactory

The Kraken widens its scope � While Alkemy is a miniature range that is developed within a coherent universe, Artefactory is a free electron, an alternative range, a creative outburst, an independent project�
This Idea was born from the fact that it was impossible for the boundless creativity of the Kraken members to be restrained to the sole Alkemy universe and settings.

To give you a glimpse of the future Artefactory section of this site, here are some greens of the current Artefactory projects: Carlos, Furgol and the Arctic Emperor.

Contents of the Starter Boxes

This is what you will see after having opened an Alkemy starter set (after having removed the Rulebook that is included in the box).
On the first picture you can see the whole contents and the way it is organized in the plastic container. Here you can notice that the miniatures are not on sprues. And as you can see, the box is well filled.
On the two next pictures, you have an example on how easy to assemble Alkemy miniatures, in this case the Auroch Totem-Warrior. Assembly is very easy, the assembled parts are very resistant and pinning is completely redundant.

Map of Mornea and Combat Cards

The English version of the combat cards are also avalaible now as high resolution PdF files.
