Organizing a tournament can be considered a project, that has many prerequisites: A place to play, some scenery, some referees, and of course a ranking method.
As you have probably noticed, Kraken is working very closely with T3, the communitarian tournament declaration tool, at least in the countries where it is implemented (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland). Other countries (like the US) are currently deploying T3.
You will find here two articles:
How to register a tournament in T3 and enter the results, and another article about how to manage the ranking of players within a tournament.
Before anything, once you are sure the tournament will take place, you need to register in T3. In order to do this, you must first be registered as a user.
If you are not yet registered, you can do it here.
Once registered, you can declare the tournament by simply going to this page.
Once you have registered the tournament, you need to wait a little bit, just for an admin to validate the tournament registration. This usually takes less than 24 hours.
In the declaration, usually you do not need to check the army lists, since every list printed through Architekt is a valid list.
Once a T3 administrator has validated the tournament, you will then have access to the tournament management page.
This whole page is described in the online help of T3, that you can access from the orga page.
Once the tournament is finished, there are a few steps to perform in order to integrate the results in T3.
First of all, you must go to the orga page in order to update the list of participants, by clicking on the list of participants icon.
This step is absolutely mandatory, since the results will be generated based on the participants that are declared on this page.
Then you need to click on the Enter results icon. A confirmation pop up will appear to generate the results.
Once these results have been generated, you just need to enter the ranking and points of each player.
The next step is to attribute the soft awards: Best painted, fairest players, special price, etc. This is done through the Player's Awards icon.
The final step is to open the tournament rating for the players: This will allow the players to give an evaluation of their own to the tournament, on many different aspects. This is done through the Open Rating icon.
To manage an ranking during a tournament, there are many different possibilities: Swiss rounds, Goal average, pondered victory points, etc.
Of course these different methos are more or less adequated depending on the game system.
Galleon has developped a method that is adapated for any alkemy tournament, and that you can freely use in your own tournaments.
During the tournament, the players win tournament points for each game:
Victory = 5 tournament points
Draw = 3 tournament points
Defeat = 1 tournament point
These points are used to rank the players during the tournament and are alos used for the final ranking.
In order to rank the players that have the same amount of tournament points, we propose you the following Goal Average system:
Each scenario offers the possibility to win a certain amount of victory points. The Goal average is a percentage that allows to measure the efficiency of the winning player by comparing his scenario related victory to those of his opponent.
Example :
The Jin Posts allow to win a maximum of 3 VP. The largest victory is hence 3-0, which represents 100% Goal average, and 0 for the loser. a 3-1 victory will bring 66% Goal average to the winner (2 VP difference, compared to a maximum of 3), and 0 for the loser.
Other example: The chests allows to win a maximum of 12 VP. The largest victory is hence 12-0, bringing 100% of GA.
A 12-9 victory allows the winner to win 25% GA (the difference between the VPs is 3, which compared to the maximum of 12 is 25%).
If the players achieve a drawn game, there are different situations:
If both players have the same amount of Victory points, none of them wins and GA points for this game.
If one the players armie's was eliminated, no GAs are won.
If the players ran out of time, or if both players achieved the scenario generates GA points normally..
Example :
On the Jin Posts scenario, both players finish their game on a 2-1 result: this means no winner, since the winner is the first to achieve 3 VPs. Nonetheless, the player having the 2 Victory points wins 33% GA.
Of course, this whole article about managing the ranking during a tournament is only a proposition from us. You are free to use the method you prefer or you are most comfortable with, as long as the results are fine.
All tournaments are eligible for the players to win doubloons.
Once the tournament is finished, the orga just needs to contact the local Galleon, and communicate the amount of participants.
Codes that correspond to a certain amount of doubloons will be sent by mail to the orga, and he can afterwards dispatch them amongst the participants.
Once yothe players have received these codes, they will just have to go on the Galleon Shop, where they will be able to credit their account using these codes.
For your information, here is the amount of doubloons won depending on the size of the tournament:
1 to 6 players: 1st:15, 2nd till 6th:10
7 to 12 players: 1st:20, 2nd:15, 3rd till 12th:10
13 to 18 players: 1st:25, 2nd:20, 3rd till 5th:15, 6th till 18th:10
